InspectEquip is a mod worth having

I’ve been using this mod myself for a very long time now. Its use is very simple which is to tell you where gear is from. Everytime I saw someone with a nice looking epic or a piece of armor that had stats I needed I used to always have to ask them. With this mod when I’m inspecting them or hovering over a linked item it shows me its source location.

InspectEquip by author Emelio attaches a panel to the inspect window that shows a list of the character’s equipment sorted by source (i.e. Raid: Dragon Soul, Vendor, Crafted…). This gives you a quick overview of a character’s equipment.

InspectEquip also adds detailed item source information (including boss names, item prices for vendor items etc) to all item tooltips.

Currently supported items include (no green items):

  • All raid items with detailed boss information, including Cataclysm raids
  • Dungeon drops for all instances
  • Quest rewards for dungeon/raid quests, including legendary items
  • Justice/Valor Point items
  • Honor/Conquest Point items
  • Reputation items sold by faction vendors
  • Crafted items
  • Darkmoon Faire items, including the cards and the new rewards
  • The Kirin Tor rings sold in Dalaran
  • World Event items
  • The Argent Tournament rewards
  • Guild Vendor items

There are other mods that do this out there such as Atlas Loot Source that can do these things but they usually require me to run another mod such as Atlas as they are plugins. There was a mod called Inspecticles which was created with InspectEquip as its inspiration while Emelio was working on updating the Inspectequip libraries due to some minor errors. Unfortunately it looks like the creator has taken it off curse where its was being hosted.

InspectEquip is a great standalone mod full of useful features. Make sure to check it out if you were ever curious where that other guy got his armor at.

WWE’s You Think You Know Me? The Story of Edge – My thoughts

Yes thats right I’m a WWE fan, lets get that out of the way right now. Also over the four years or so since I’d started watching again the character Edge had really caught my attention with crazy antics, epic matches and incredible skill on the microphone.

A bit of back story  here for why I didn’t watch before is I actually did watch WWE (then the WWF) when I was  a kid. We had to move around alot due to my fathers work. When we were living in the city where I currently live now we were able to get U.S. t.v. on our bunny ears (ya thats right this is before cable or modern day satellite) and I tuned in as often as I was allowed access to the t.v. to watch titans like Hogan, Andre, Jake the Snake, Junk Yard Dog and the list goes on to wrestle. Unfortunately due to the moving around we moved north by just and hours drive but that put our t.v.’s bunny ears out fo range to U.S. t.v. and so I had to stop watching wrestling.

By the time we moved south again I was a teenager and for more interested in chasing girls than in trying to reconnect with wrestling. Needless to say from a hardcore fans point of view this was a terrible mistake as I missed the Rock, Stone Cold, the Monday night wars, basically the entire attitude era and of course the rise of Edge. After mentioning no less a story line involving Edge no less that I’d stumbled across while channel surfing to a friend where I worked. He happily talked to me about the story and WWE in general raising my interest enough to get me tuning back into Smackdown and eventually Raw. Suffice to say I quickly got hooked back on the WWE and have been watching ever since.

When Edge shocked us all after WM 27 announcing on Monday Night Raw that he’d been given the news that day that his career was over I kind of wanted to see some of his old work to understand him better. He’d somehow managed to get his character on the screen to connect with the fans in a very personal way and learning the back story to his career before I started watching the modern WWE seemed important. The problem I ran into was its really hard to get youtube clips in order of his career or the story around the match in context though wikipedia has a rather extensive page on him. Then the dvd set was released and I’d hoped to get a chance to pick it up some time. Seeing these epic matches from the past and the documentary were had to be better than trying to sort out a very long webpage.

I recently had time and the money to pick up the three dvd set  You Think You Know Me? The Story of Edge and I can say I enjoyed it immensely. The first disk is excellent which is the documentary itself. Including alot of time with Edge commenting on his career with many other people interviewed from his mom to Matt Hardy to John Cena. The second and third disk are packed with some of his greatest matches over the years starting off with one from his own private collection from an independent group he used to work with, his opponent of course was Christian.

If you’re a fan of Edge, this is a must watch. Even if you never really got into his act, the documentary highlights an important and often overlooked career. Edge did not define an era or become the biggest star of all time, but his impact in the wrestling industry is extremely relevant. This release, and especially the documentary, shows just how good Edge was and easily lives up to that career. I highly recommend this set. Even with its few flaws, The Story of Edge does what it sets out to do and highlights one of the greatest stars of the last decade.

quote from Will Pruett

That last paragraph really says it all and I quoted it from Will Pruett’s article at prowrestling.net. I just felt he summed up my thoughts better than I could. If you are a Edge fan it certainly is a must see.

Social Tabs and Molinari excellent mods

Ok its been a bit since I’ve done a post on useful mod in WoW. Well I’m testing in Pandoria and got an invite to Diablo 3 beta so I’ve been multitasking between games and real life a bit. So this week I figured I’d drop you a line on a couple small mods that can make WoW a bit easier to play.

The first is Molinari by author p3lim. Molinari is an addon designed to make [Milling],
[Prospecting][Disenchanting] and [Pick Lock] a bit easier. Instead of doing it the old fashion way, by clicking the spell first, then selecting the item(s), you can hold the <Alt> key and click the item(s) instead. This is extremely usefull for my enchanter and I highly recommend if you are playing WoW with a character that has one of the four listed professions to check this mod out.

The second is Social Tabs by Ennie. This AddOn will combine Social, Guild, LFD, LFR, PVP, and GuildFinder windows into common one with tabs at the right side. A very simple concept but it pays off in spades saving you time of trying to remember a key bind for say finding a pug DS raid and then deciding you want to check a reputation level with a faction you can now just click a tab and get there quickly. Also If you need to open more than one windows at the same time (i.e. Social + Guild), hold Ctrl key and click on the tab.

Mists of Pandoria start area very good

The starter area was a very great experience, even as a  classic gamer it felt very refreshing and interesting.

The highlight to me really was meeting with Shen-zin Su, which was just well… Awesome. And I am glad that it was the only experience like that, a sort of story-line climax to the starter zone that wasn’t necessarily the end, but that experience you will end up remembering probably until the end of MoP.

Other than that, yes, the real differences between Horde and Alliance were not really highlighted here. It seemed more like, alright, there are these two factions that crashed onto our land. Aysa, knowing to make sure both are alright, goes to check on the Alliance. Ji sticks with the Horde to help them out.

After the split, though, and the very low-key part where Horde and Alliance members are staring off with the Pandaren kind of holding them apart (something I would love to see attention drawn to, somehow), we are just kinda left with the very, very brief description and eventual cutscene when we choose.

What would really help is several more quests which focus more on drawing attention to what makes the Alliance the Alliance, and what makes the Horde the Horde, and possibly giving us a perspective on why they are at war with one another (nothing big. Short and sweet but enough to give us a strong taste.) As someone mentioned above, a scene between Aysa and Ji would have been perfect to set up the final choice.

Some of the drawbacks you can read about in the beta forums or even see on youtube are odd animations like a roll move will make you jump through the air. However keep in mind this is a beta and Blizzard has already made it clear what we are seeing at the moment is not what will be in the actual expansion.  Also the maneuvers like the spinning crane kick show up on your action bar way to early. Many people were complaining that it was broken but its actually a lvl20 ability. So just have patience level up and you’ll get to have your fun with it.

They’ve given us some basic tools to start helping them iron out as many kinks as possible before release and I for one am enjoying doing my part to help.

ncCamera mod

Ok this time around I’m going with a  very simple mod that can make a huge difference in your game play. By its very definition all ncCamera by nightcracker does is it allows you to zoom out your camera to the maximum amount(further than found in the Video options).

Why is scrolling your camera angle back further so important? It’s very simple in the newer instances and raids movement of the group members during an event from a boss is essential. Using Obsidium Sanctum 10 or 25 man raid as an example the wave can be tough to spot that the boss generates. However it can do alot damage or knock you out of range of the healer.

Scrolling your camera way back beyond what blizzard built into the game options lets you see a wave starting and where the hole is to avoid the hit alot sooner giving you and members of your group better situational awareness and  thus a much higher percentage of achieving a defeat of the boss your at.

There are many bosses where this is useful in Cataclysm instances and raids also in fact blizzard keeps making the fights more movement oriented every expansion making seeing whats going on around you even more important than maybe you even realize until you try a mod like this one.

This weeks must have mod is BadBoy

BadBoy: Anti Spam Automatic Reporter by author funkydude is great little addon that automatically filters out those goofy gold spam ads in various WoW chat channels. It not only blocks them but it automatically reports its to blizzard. This of course can be configured not to report but blizzard has a report feature built into the game we might as well use it.

The following are not scanned and cannot be reported/blocked by this addon: Friends, Real ID friends, Guild, Party, Raid, GM’s.

The following channels are monitored: Public Trade/General/etc, Say, Yell, Whisper.

Also it as just not cleaning up public chat channels funkydude has made several plugins for the mod that can stop even more from appearing in these channels such as guild advertising.

Available Plugins:

Whispers by level blocker BadBoy_Levels.
Anti anal/etc spam BadBoy_CCleaner.
Remove guild advertising BadBoy_Guilded.

Breakout King’s Season 2

The show will return for its second season on March 4th, 2012.

Breakout Kings is an American drama television series created by Nick Santora and Matt Olmstead, which airs on the A&E network. The series premiered on March 6, 2011.[1] The series was picked up for a second season of 10 episodes on July 6, 2011 and is expected to premiere on March 4, 2012

Auctionator a major benefit in WoW

Auctionator is a mod I have been using since near its initial release from mod author Zirco. The main reason I started using it was back in the early days of WoW we only had Auctioneer which was a bit memory intensive. Since I ran the game on an old pc that barely met the requirements to run WoW at the time memory was an issue as far as performance went.

Most of the time I went without an auction house mod but it came at the expense of spending large amounts of time at the auction house searching the item I was posting and figuring (or guessing in my case) out what was a competitive price for items I wanted to sell. This saved me the time of running full auction house scans to maintain a database a couple times a day which really burns up alot of time when you add it all up.

Then I saw Auctionator listed as new or maybe updated on wowinterface.com. I was curious to see if someone had cloned auctioneer. Instead to my delight Zirco had built a great mod of its own. While you can scan the entire auction house if you wanted it also had a sell tab that automatically looked up the price of items I wanted to sell and suggested a competitive price.

Well needless to say it saved me huge amounts of time and while there are other features to this great modification, the Sell tab is the most used by myself. I still use this mod to this day and hightly recommend it to anyone looking for an auction house aid.

it is still maintained by Zirco and can be found up to date on at this Curse page. He also hosts a site for it Auctionator-Addon.com.

GTFO is a must have mod!

GTFO is probably the simplest but most effective mod in my arsenal helping me when I’m soloing, running instances or doing the occasional raid. Simply put it plays an obnoxious sound when your standing someplace you shouldn’t be.

Say you were casting away and  a pool of lava appears beneath your feet (Slabhide Second Boss inside The Stonecore for example). It automatically plays a loud sound letting you know you need to move. It actually helps you move faster since the sound alone tells you “anywhere but here is better“, making moving happen quicker even for those like myself who thought we were pretty quick to begin with.

I’m not even going to post any kind of a picture due to the fact it posts none in game unless you run PallyPower for visual alerts. This mod can be found on wowinterface.com.

Here’s the official description from author Zensunim :

Stop standing in fire!

GTFO provides an audible alert when you’re standing in something you’re not supposed to be standing in. In some cases, you’ll be warned before you start taking damage. This mod improves your situational awareness and is recommended for dungeon divers and raiders of all skill levels as even the most seasoned veteran sometimes needs a reminder to GTFO.

It’s particularly useful for individuals that play with their spell graphics turned down as well as assisting with PvP when you can’t tell who’s casting the AOE.

Features

  • 4 distinct audible alerts for different types of damage
    • High Alert – Dungeon/raid encounter AOE that you want to get out of it ASAP
    • Low Alert – PvP and low damage AOE, use your best judgment whether or not to move
    • Fail Alert – AOE you should have moved out of the way of, but it’s too late (e.g. KZ void zone, Sindragosa bomb)
    • Friendly Fire Alert – AOE radiating from a teammate’s body, one of you needs to move
  • Tuned for dungeons and raids in original vanilla WoW, Burning Crusade, Wrath of the Lich King, and Cataclysm
  • Alert you before you start taking damage (when possible, in some cases)
  • Alert you during vehicle fights when your vehicle is in danger (e.g. Malygos, Flame Leviathan)
  • Visual alerts available when used with Power Auras Classic (optional)
  • Statistical information of alerts when used with Recount or Skada (optional)
  • GTFO-specific volume slider
  • Small memory footprint and very little CPU usage
  • Option to ignore alerts for trivial content
  • Option to auto-unmute sounds if you play without sound on
